Learn to Weave with a Kit

Are you interested in learning how to weave, but not quite sure where to begin? I completely understand – it can be overwhelming trying to figure out what weaving tools and yarn you’ll need to create your first woven project.

That’s why I recommend learning how to weave with the help of a weaving kit. The kits contain all of the yarn and weaving tools you’ll need to get started, in one convenient package.

In the list below, I’ve curated ten of my very favorite weaving kits that will help you learn how to weave in no time. The craft kits I’ve chosen are specifically designed with beginners in mind: they include easy-to-understand instructions and all of the required materials you’ll need to complete your very first weaving.

After you learn the basic weaving techniques, you’ll be able to create textured wall art, woven wall hangings, and more. And don’t forget, these weaving kits would make great gifts for friends and family.

What to Look for in a Weaving Kit

Weaving kits can be a little pricey, especially if they include a loom. So, when you’re shopping for weaving kits, you’ll want to make sure you’re choosing a kit with high-quality tools, yarn, and other supplies.

What makes a high-quality kit? A good weaving kit will include all the materials necessary to complete a finished project. Some kits include instructional booklets, and some will include video tutorials or links to video classes.

At a minimum, a kit will have:

  • A high-quality loom, such as a frame loom, a lap loom, or a rigid heddle loom.
  • Weaving tools, like a heddle, weaving needles, or a comb.
  • Warp string and yarn in sufficient quantity to finish the project. Some kits will have wool yarn, and some will have acrylic yarn.
  • Easy-to-follow guide with clear instructions. Tutorial videos are a nice bonus!

Some kits may include extra items, like scissors or a project tote bag.

Sure, were you thinking about getting a rigid heddle loom, then? I know that the Ashford Rigid Heddle Loom has a stand. I don't have it myself but it has good reviews.

Or, if you were thinking about a simple table loom, this one looks highly rated. (affiliate links)
