Free C2C Crochet Patterns

We’re so excited to share this roundup of our favorite free C2C crochet patterns. Whether you’re new to the C2C technique or consider yourself a pro, we hope you’ll find some fresh inspiration here.

What is corner-to-corner crochet?

For those who may not know, C2C crochet stands for “corner-to-corner crochet,” and it’s one of our absolute favorite crochet techniques. The basic idea is that you work diagonally from one corner, increasing as you go until you reach the midpoint. Then, you start decreasing as you make your way to the opposite corner.

C2C crochet creates beautiful pixelated designs that are so fun to watch come together. It’s a great way to use up lots of colors, and it’s easy to learn – especially if you’re already comfortable with the basic crochet techniques.

If you’ve never tried C2C crochet before, this step-by-step tutorial will guide you through the process.

What can you make with C2C crochet?

C2C crochet is commonly used for chunky blankets and afghans, which look amazing in this style. But as you’ll see from the patterns we’ve gathered here, C2C crochet can be used for all kinds of projects – dishcloths, scarves, hats, even a vest! We love how versatile it is.

Some ideas you’ll find in this list of free patterns include:

  • Blankets, afghans, and graphgans
  • Pillows
  • Dishcloths and hand towels
  • Bookmark
  • Shawls, cardigans, and ponchos

Supplies Needed

Before we jump into the patterns, here’s a quick list of must-have supplies:

  • Yarn. Read on for more tips on choosing yarn below.
  • Crochet hook(s). Check your pattern to see which size you’ll need.
  • Other notions. The usual things – scissors, a tapestry needle, stitch markers. Depending on the project, you might also need a pillow form and some buttons.

Here’s a tip. If you’re crocheting with lots of different colors, consider using some yarn bobbins to keep each color yarn organized and prevent them from tangling.

What type of yarn is best for C2C crochet?

While you can use almost any type of yarn for C2C crochet, it’s most commonly done with DK or worsted-weight yarn. Of course, the type of project you make will influence the type of yarn you choose – so check out your pattern’s instructions to see what yarn it recommends.

Some of the most popular choices for C2C patterns include Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice, Caron Big Donut O’Go, and Red Heart Super Saver.

Tip: One benefit of corner-to-corner crochet is that it’s great for using up scrap yarn – as long as it’s all the same yarn weight and fiber content!

Best C2C Patterns for Beginners

With a bit of practice (and patience!) C2C projects can be great for beginners. And, if the thought of diving into a full-blown blanket feels daunting, start with something smaller like a pillow, dishcloth, hand towel, or scarf.
